Beware of false ideas about God! Most if not all of us have been taught or have naturally learned ideas about God are false. We live in a world that is full of sinful people. Another way of saying this is that we have all sinned, and continue to sin. Christians strive to live in a way that pleases God. That is we try to eliminate sin from our lives. This is referred to sanctification process of eliminating sin from our lives. Most agree that this process cannot be completed here on earth.
Before we can talk about this process we should define “SIN”. I’ll not give my definition of sin here, I’ll simply say that God despises or hates sin. Sin cannot exist in the presence of God’s Glory. If that is true, and if we have been taught, or have naturally learned ideas about God that are false, THEN, maybe one of the main reasons for this blog is to talk about the definition, concept, or affects of sin.
The older we are the more false ideas we accumulate. That is why we need to approach sharing our beliefs about God with an open mind. Let’s approach this like a child, or as one who is willing to grow or accept new ideas. Still, we need to be cautious since we don’t want accumulate more false ideas. So let us be brutally honest with one another. If somebody presents a false idea about God, then let us call a black kettle black. Hopefully we will provide scripture or at least good reasons as to why the idea is false. Eliminating false ideas will allow us to focus on truths and our hope that Christ Jesus gave us on that first Easter.
The truth is that we will be living sin free and in a sin free environment in Heaven. We will have a much clearer understanding and view of God when we get to Heaven. We will not be limited by time in Heaven. No death, no fears and no tears. Our relationships with God will be completely reconciled. All those important questions that we were going to get answered will instantly become meaningless. Yet I believe all of the skills and lessons we learned in our life on Earth will be valuable. As my dad said on his death bed, going to Heaven to be with Jesus, that's what it's all about. Or as Dennis Raney said in one of his recent daily devotionals, "Heaven is looking better and better all of the time." Dennis goes on in his "Moments Together for Couples" Devotional to suggest that we:
DISCUSS: How deeply do you yearn for heaven? If not, what do you long for? What keeps it from being what you desire? SO I say, Learn to Yearn - for heaven!
PRAY : Pray that you will better see who Jesus is today and, in turn, set your affections "on things above," not the world.
Heavenly Father, Please help me see those ideas I have about You and remove and replace them with true ideas. Help me see sins in my life and remove and replace them with appropriate action. Please protect me from the evil one. his lies, and his temptations. Help me be ready when it's my time to be with You in Heaven. Help me look forward to Heaven and to enjoy my time here on Earth. Again, review, revise, or repeat that prayer if you mean it.
